Croit (Capital, Bolandy)

The Ever-turning City

The capital of the province Bolandy, Croit is a city of industrial and mechanical power. Positioned over the Alpha River many of their inventions rely on the ever flowing river’s current. Throughout the city people can see large stone water wheels being moved by the steadily flowing river. These wheels connect to a massive network of gears and wires that power many of the innovations made by the Bolandians.

One of the innovations made by the Croitians is a public transit system powered by the river. It works as a system of automated platforms that move throughout the city constantly, only slowing and pausing at the established docking areas where people hastily jump on. An architectural innovation of the city is the large stone buildings which can rise up to six or seven stories tall. These massive buildings incorporate the many businesses within Croit, and act as impressive shows of architectural prowess between businesses.

The city is run by a mayor and the Croit Council who work for the welfare of the city and the betterment of the lives for those who live within it.

Religious facilities do not exist within the city, though in the slums some gather in secret to worship their respective gods. This being in line with the general opinion of the province of Bolandy, and the stance of many within it against religion. Many of the former churches within the city have been converted to schools, forges, and locations for business to occur.

In Croit, as throughout Bolandy, a great deal is put on people's rights to fair treatment under the law and in their votes. The police force within Croit, the Bandellians, is often more kind to citizens than the average officer in other forces. For many of the Bandellians it is because of a deep patriotism and belief in the rights of those citizens to their opinions and safety, for others it may be because of a fear that the citizens may press charges against them, or worse.

In Croit and throughout Bolandy citizens retain the right to challenge people to duels when they feel their honor insulted or an issue unresolvable between two parties. The duels, known as Corchanks, require that both parties consent to the duel beforehand (though it is considered a great shame to one’s reputation to deny one), and a neutral third party observer to mediate and discuss terms. Corchanks are most often done within the Corchankian Pit, but otherwise must occur outside. Any damage to property during a Corchanks will result in a fine or prison sentence for both parties in the duel.

The Flying Rabbit

As the centuries have passed entrepreneurs and other businessmen have begun to develop more efficient techniques to produce airships, spurned on by the discovery of a vein of Vahenite crystals in  Örndalur and the enchantments of powerful artificers within Croit.  While they are not as plentiful as normal ships, they offer many benefits for trade and the movement of goods and have encouraged much growth in the global trading industry. The Flying Rabbit is the premier manufacturer of airships in Croit, its only true competitor being the Kraus Initiative of Örndalur. Both companies have grown powerful in their success and have been rumored to partake in less-than-honorable tactics to eliminate their competition.
