Iktovar, the Unknown

Iktovar

Iktovar is the god of secrets and hidden things throughout the world, as well as the darkness and the depths. They secretly bless those who are born curious, but only a few each year, their gifted often have an easier time than most in finding things, or people. In the early days of the world they gave darkvision so that those who needed to could find their way through the darkness. They are often described as an anglerfish with a body of shadows, not the most friendly looking creature, but from their cloak a pale hand can sometimes be seen. They don’t seek anything more than knowledge and secrets, it’s said that if Iktovar doesn’t know it, it isn’t worth knowing or is completely unknown.

Followers of Iktovar are not much like the standard followers or other gods, their beliefs are less public, and more something you teach to your children. Their symbol is that of a book with a candle in front of it. Places to worship are often in the side alleys or in the dark corners of the cities they exist in, they also tend to move as well.

Fable

“The surface had its advantages, the sun rose and set, during the day the people could move around and get resources to survive the nights. But below the light reaches less and less, hiding more secrets. There also existed creatures below that needed to survive, having to find their ways in the dark unable to see. So the creatures found themselves asking for assistance in being able to see, so Iktovar was brought, he blessed all below with the ability to see in the dark. This allowed so many to find their way and start making more stories, making secrets that the dark would hold again, for the next ones to find.”
