Genursh'k

The Flower of the Wilds

Genursh’k dwells deep within the dense jungle and is known as The Flower of the Wilds for its great beauty. The city is made up of towering stone structures built on elevating terraces and vast connecting networks of canals providing irrigation and transport. Everywhere is adorned with beautiful plants and flowers that have been harvested from the surrounding jungle. In the western portion of the city lies a great stone wall that keeps the dangerous creatures at bay. Towards the east of the city, the ever perseverent folks have cultivated that portion of the jungle over many lifetimes. In the course of the last couple of centuries, Genursh’k has grown in significance despite being a smaller city within a hostile jungle. The current empress, Nahuatl, has gone to great lengths to ensure that the prosperity of her people grows. The exotic fruits and herbs that have been cultivated provide Genursh’k its primary source of commerce as they export rare medicine, unique culinary, dyes, perfumes, and wines.

The centerpiece of this beautiful city is The Palace of the Sun, which holds a massive finely crafted azure gem at the top. The gem is rumored to be almost as old as the jungle itself, being transported from the ruins of a fallen empire when the temple was first built. The palace is the home of the current ruler of Genursh’k. The palace contains a truly unique hanging garden filled with gilded cages containing the remnants of executed prisoners, as the empress has cultivated a unique species of flower that pollinates itself within the open wounds of creatures and slowly consumes their flesh before germinating into flowery corpses. This is a strict punishment meant for those who have done truly heinous crimes or have made themselves an enemy of Nahuatl herself. During the day, this hanging garden is open to the public for all to see.

The exchange of power within Genursh’k isn’t done through blood, but rather through a transfer of will as the ruler appoints a child as their heir to the throne. Throughout the history of Genursh’k this has often been an adopted child of the previous ruler. The vibrant goliath empress, Nahuatl, currently lives within this great palace where she rules over the city with elegant beauty overlaying unfaltering strength. Beauty and strength are two things that the people of Genursh’k value the most, and in the eyes of its people these two are often deeply intertwined. Those born within the jungle know it demands ruthless and tenacity to survive and have great respect for their empress.  These ideals are shown all throughout Genursh’k’s culture, it isn’t uncommon for folks to publicly challenge each other to duels to resolve arguments, in those most serious circumstances these may be duels to the death. The vitality of the great empress has lasted for centuries due to her deep connection to the jungles, but as Nahuatl is reaching the edges of her life the question of who her successor will be lingers in the air.

Visitors from far-off countries with a nose for the arcane will notice natural arcane energy that flows throughout the city of Genursh’k, it glimmers in the clear waters of the canal and the vibrant life of the plants. The secret behind the vitality of this city within the savage wilds of the jungles is a mystery to outsiders, but as long as the goods are of fine quality the merchants of the Cinder Confederation don’t care.

Genursh’k has greatly expanded its political relations with other countries throughout Embris since its debut on the world stage. After the great mother tree was nearly destroyed in Noirtisser, the Empress sent an envoy of druids to aid in the revitalization efforts. Their expertise in cultivating and nourishing the wild jungles of the savage lands assisted in the regrowth of the blighted Sanctum Vitae. The two cities have had close ties in the following centuries.

Recognized for their great talents in cultivating the savage wilds, in the last century, Genush’k has worked with mages from throughout Embris to establish an institution of learning . The Saurian Arboretum is on the major campuses within the Calytrix systems, Genursh’k has become a global center for the study of natural magicks resulting in the growth of immigration and strong ties with their fellow universities in Felaria, Orndalur, and Gravitas.

The primary languages of the jungle are Giant, Draconic, and Primordial, with other major languages being Common, Leonin, and Loxodon.
