Pahlthyrus
The Everlasting Pearl in the Wastes
Multiple enormous white walls, extending from the Blythemack Heights to the Lyzem Sea, defend the top and bottom of the plateau that Pahlthyrus inhabits. The beauty of this city can be lost on visitors at first through lingering dust clouds or the persistent smell of sulfur. Pahlthyrus is home to what they believe is the greatest achievement of mankind, God King Deimos, the Everlasting - the only mortal to have achieved godhood. As such, the city reveres him as the savior of the wastes, being the bright light for countless refugees that have had to escape the blight beyond the western walls. The city has four main districts:
The Old City encompasses the entirety of the top of the plateau and has a distinct feel with many buildings adorned with large arches, domed ceilings, and geometric motifs of green and gold. It is home to affluent neighborhoods, cultural and economic centers, and of course, the Hall of the Eternal, where God King Deimos and his family, the only noble class, reside. The Old City is also where the administrative functions of the government are conducted.
Miner’s Bay encircles the plateau, and holds the majority of the population of Pahlthyrus. This is where most of the functional and working class areas of the city are located, with there being a particularly heavy presence of the mining operations the district derives its name from. Tightly packed, visitors will find walking around Miner’s Bay a treat as neighborhoods visibly change in their look and feel as a result of the large diversity of people who have called it home, many of whom are ancestors of those who fled from fallen cities across the Tu'va Wastes.
Yangarr can be found to the north of the city, though still protected by its walls. It is a bustling trade port that is highlighted by a 150ft tall statue in the likeness of the God King. Since annexing it by force some 200 years ago, Yangarr has become very important to Pahlthyrus as its only port access. As such, it gains the benefits of hefty investments and constantly under construction.
Bytown is East of Miner’s Bay and the “newest” addition to Pahlthyrus, having decided to be amalgamated into it just over 150 years ago. Famous for its farmer’s market, it is the breadbasket of the city, showcasing how fruitful the land north of the Blythemack’s were before the blight.
The police force in Pahlthyrus is managed by the army, which is the largest force in the city state. Guard forces move in “Packs” and are known to be strict with the law, especially with outsiders. In the Old City, the Undying are the nobility’s personal guard. They can be easily noticed from their magnificently crafted and decorated armor. Avoiding their gaze is recommended.
Within the last decade rumors have begun to spread after the disappearance of a prominent noble within Pahlthyrus. This noble claimed to know the truth about the God King’s godhood and immortality to those within their circle, but as swiftly as they spread this rumor they disappeared. Some wonder if this was true, could there be a source of how the God King ascended? Could it be achieved by others? And for some within the city of Pahlthyrus, they wonder if this secret could unveil the Everlasting’s weaknesses. With this secret’s potential sparking both excitement and anger, some individuals have gathered to theorize and discover the truth. This leading to many ideas and conspiracies spreading throughout the people of Pahlthyrus, even as authorities try to swiftly shut them down.
