Vaikas, the Child
Vaikas
Vaikas is the god of new life, beginnings, rebirth, growth and the birth of nature. He is most often represented by by a cradle with an aureole atop it (art in the works). He is most often attributed to a compassionate and caring being, loving all and hoping to see them succeed in their projects. His followers usually believe in second chances and the ability to start anew after turmoil.
On the first day of the Mollain, Vaikas travels from the Elemental Plane of Air to inhabit a child born within the last year. The child is found and brought to the Temple of New Life in Howe. A myriad of festivities take place around the temple as worshippers bring their own children to be blessed by the god on earth. Once the day ends, Vaikas returns to the Elemental Plane of Air. The child is raised and taught at the temple, joining the Chosen of Vaikas. These Chosen are some of the most powerful healers and clerics of the land, the innate magic of Vaikas still flowing through their bodies.
Fable
“With the first eruption of The Precipice of Ferocity the continent of Volandra was covered in ash and soot, life barely able to be sustained with the mountains of grey. On the first of Mollain, Vaikas came down in the form of a babe. The storms around Vaikas quelled and the lands began to flourish. Throughout the year thereafter, the babe was taken to each village of the land to restore the peace. Each village sent it’s own protector with the babe, to keep him safe from the dangers of the world.
After the efforts and tribulations of the infant’s journey, the land was finally healed; the people rejoiced and organized a festival to celebrate their renewed and flourishing world. Seeing that his work was done, Vaikas began to giggle with joy. Light radiated from the child as Vaikas returned to the plane of Air, his work complete. In his place lay a new child. With no mother of his own, those who took care of the god during their travels vowed to raise him as their own. They named him Mathias, and he grew to be the first priest of Vaikas.”
