Kearloch

The Walled City

The city of Kearloch is the bastion of civilization within the desolate Mire of Kearmack. Surrounded by a large wall erected many centuries prior to keep out the horrors of the Mire around them, the people of Kearloch have known relative safety from the surrounding dangers.

Though Kearloch has seen incredible growth and gained considerable power from the amassed artifacts gained from their forays into the Mire over recent centuries, it did not save them from the wrath of the demigod who rose to wrest control of the region.  The mighty Empyrean, Kearmack himself appeared 35 years ago to dominate Kearloch and its Neclesiac overlords, casting them down and near wiping out the ancient ruling family.  A veil of paranoia now permeates the city as Kearmack rules with an iron fist from his new seat of power, the fortress  known as The Grand Monolith of the Divine, providing those who oppose him with brutal summary execution.  Many ranking officials in the city now guard their emotions and secrets fiercely as a result, as none wish to risk offending the Empyrean.

While the people generally holds a xenophobic attitude, they are tolerant and courteous towards adventurers, as they believe that adventurer activities often lead to more positive and helpful consequences. The guards of Kearloch do however keep a close eye on adventurers as they feel adventurers may disrespect the city's rules. These city guards of Kearloch call themselves the Nezzians or Nezzian Guard, despite Kearmack’s work to stamp out remnants of the old regime, and they keep patrols on the wall and around the city at all times.

Kearloch’s general philosophy tends to align more with doing whatever it takes to benefit the Kearlochians, no matter who or what it hurts.
